5A Hop to it Necessity for New Parents!  Dec 23, 2008
By Shanshad "shanachie_shadowfax"
With a month old child in the house, I can tell you with certainty what items from my registry were worthwhile and which aren't used much, or aren't used yet. This bouncer is among the most used items we own for our son. This lightweight, easy to put together bouncer with an option for vibration and dangling toys is something I'd likely get for any mom-to-be. Especially one living in a small apartment with limited space.

The bouncer is a soft green color, with machine washable covering (important!). It's a nice neutral fit for the non-gender specific shower. The entire thing is easily put together out of the box, even for this all-thumbs parent. Once put together, it is sturdy, but lightweight enough to be easily carried from room to room or lifted up and transported. While the wider base can be a bit tricky to navigate at times, it's much smaller than a baby swing and fits an apartment lifestyle where space is at a premium. The build of the bouncer allows it to bounce when the baby moves, or when an adult gently "bounces" it. It also has a battery operated vibrator that takes one D battery. The vibrations may be a bit strong for some newborns, but our son seems to enjoy them. The dangling toys include two soft toy animals attached with velcro and a plastic frog with a handle. When this is pulled, it plays some rather tinny music which I don't care for all that much, but can overlook.

The bouncer is equiped with a safety belt to keep a child in place (given that our little guy is a squirmer, this is fundamental!) And a baby can sit and watch the world around them, or sleep securely. Our son prefers to snooze in his bouncer than to sleep in his bassinet and often ends up spending the night tucked into the bouncer close to hand so that if he fusses, a quick nudge or two will send it moving and hopefully help lull him back to sleep. The dangling toys don't interest him much yet, but may in a few more weeks, for now they mostly get in the way when we're trying to get him out or put him in. But this is a minor quibble and the two soft toys can be removed, as can the whole toy arch. The vibration on the chair is the only battery operated part, and this can be ignored if batteries aren't available or run out.

I highly recommend this to anyone who is debating about a swing or bouncer for their first child, and it's a great shower gift. If you're looking for other essentials, you might want to check out baby travel systems (strollers with car seats) and a good changing table pad.

Happy parenting! ^_^ Shanshad

4Good Bouncer  May 19, 2010
By Luna87
The Fisher-Price Hoppy Days Bouncer is a good bouncer for the price. We have had this bouncer for nearly 6 months and it has held up well. Below is a list of what I like/dislike about the bouncer.
Pros:
1. Affordable
2. Easy to clean (cover is machine washable)
3. Portable & lightweight (easy to take from room to room)
4. Nice motion (vibration or rocking with your foot)
Cons:
1. The toy bar is just okay (the song the frog plays gets annoying and the other toys don't do anything).
2. I wish the hard plastic at the base of the seat was at the side or covered with more padding (my son's feet hit the plastic when he bounces himself).

3Vibrations too strong  Oct 16, 2008
By W. Mills
I love everything about this bouncy, except the strong vibrations. I have a newborn and bought this bouncy as an extra for the upstairs. I turned on the vibration mode, and you could see the head support pillow vibrating away. I put my baby in the seat to see how it worked and it was vibrating so much, his head was vibrating too. Will be taking it back to exchange for a differnt product. I also own the Fisher-Price Dog Days bouncy and love it, no problem with the vibrations on that one.

4Better for Infant not Newborn  Jan 29, 2010
By L. Mastrigt
The quality of this chair is good, no complaints. The print is cute and even though i think the toys look boring my five month old loves to play with them and proudly pulls the frog to hear the music. It allows me to take a shower while he plays! But he did not like this chair until about 3 months old. Before that it was uncomfortable, his head was bend forward in a weird way. We are definitely using it now, but i wish i would have gotten a bouncy that was more infant friendly so i could have used it longer..

5Baby loves it  Jun 27, 2009

We bought this bouncer because of the neck support and it was one of the less expensive models. My baby is about to be 3 months and she loves it. The 2nd time I put her in the seat she fell asleep before I'd even stood up. Sometimes she likes the vibrations, sometimes she doesn't. I've read a lot of reviews in which parents complain that the baby can't reach the toys to play with them. For one, it's probably a good thing lest she/he accidentally pull down the toy bar. But another complaint is that the frog only plays a short snippet of music and it can't be activated by the baby just bouncing. I solved this problem by attaching ring-a-links (not expensive) and a little barbell shaped rattle toy to the frogs pull so she can activate the song herself. She figured out how to grab the barbell and with the motions of her arm, she'll play the song. Sometimes I take the toy bar off entirely and she can just sit and look around without my having to hold her 24 hours a day. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the $50+ models, but for something she's not going to use for a long time, it's not going to break the bank.

The Importance Of Lighting In Interior Design

   by Jessica Ackerman

Everyone knows how important paint color, furniture choices and artwork are to interior design. One aspect of design that is often overlooked, however, is lighting. Lighting not only affects the brightness of the room, but it can also change the way a paint color looks, cast shadows in ways that make the room seem smaller and have an impact on the presentation of art work.

There is no light like natural light. If you are buying, building or remodeling, opt for as much natural light as possible. Oversized windows and skylights are two ways to get the most natural light. Of course, not everyone is in the position to be able to do that, so you'll have to work with what you have.

How much natural light do you get in your room? If the room in question faces north, you won't get as much natural sunlight as you would in a southern facing room. Rooms that face south get bright, natural light throughout the day. Rooms that face east will only have good natural light in the morning hours and western facing rooms will have the most light during the afternoon.

Once you are familiar with how much natural light is in each room, you'll be able to make informed choices about what additional lighting may be necessary. Keep in mind that rooms with little or no natural light will need artificial lighting - even during the day - in order to look their best. Here are some types of lighting to consider.

1. Accent Lighting

Accent lighting is perfect when you want to showcase a piece of art or a special piece of furniture or other item. Since light draws the eye, it will bring attention to the features in your room that you wish to highlight.

2. Hanging Light Features

Chandeliers and smaller hanging lamps can be beautiful as well as functional. A trip to the local home improvement store will quickly show you how overwhelming the choices can be. You'll want to select lighting that blends in with your existing décor. For example, a crystal chandelier in a country themed dining room probably isn't the best option. If you don't choose carefully, your lighting may stick out like a sore thumb and become more of an eyesore than a lovely accent.

3. Recessed Lighting

Recessed lighting is a good choice for a room that needs extra light throughout the day. Because the lighting won't interfere with the existing decor, it can work in almost any room. It provides abundant light without taking up a lot of space or interfering with other aspects of the room.

4. Lamps

Using lamps are a way to add not only additional lighting, but also punches of color. If possible, see how much light the lamp gives off before leaving the store. Many lamps serve as decoration more than as a light source and give off very little light. If you love the lamp, but it doesn't give off quite enough light, consider changing the shade which will usually solve the problem.

When decorating your home, remember how important lighting is, and give it the same thought and attention you give to the other details of decorating your home.
