5Our baby loves this  Feb 24, 2007
By Kendra Gehring "nursing student/mama of 2"
I replaced our old Ocean Wonders Aquarium soother with this Rainforest Waterfall version about a month and a half ago. The Aquarium was still working and our baby liked the lights and music, but I was looking for something that would play for a longer period of time. With the Aquarium, I had to go in her room and press the button a couple of times before she would fall back asleep. Not fun at 3 or 4 in the morning when all I want to do is fall back asleep. I had read that the Waterfall soother plays for up to 18 minutes, so I thought I'd check it out.

The soother has 3 different length settings: lights, music/sounds, and movement for 6 minutes; lights and music/sounds for 12 minutes; music/sounds only for 18 minutes. There are 3 settings for the sounds: rainforest sounds without music; rainforest sounds and lullabies; rainforest sounds and classical music. There are 3 volume settings as well.

I have ours set for 12 minutes of sounds and lullabies and I rarely have to go back in her room and press the button a second time. She almost instantly settles down once the music starts. If I happen to put her down for a nap or for bed while she's still awake, she'll quietly watch the lights and fall asleep on her own. And I'll admit that hearing the songs and rainforest noises over the baby monitor is soothing and relaxing as I try to fall back asleep.

My only complaint is that the lights seem REALLY bright for something that is supposed to lull a baby to sleep. I ended up covering ours with a light flannel blanket to dull the light a bit. The baby can't see the critters, but since I don't have them set to move, it's not really a big deal.

Despite the bright lights, we're happy with this soother.

4Love it, needs a few improvements though  Jan 04, 2007
By dp
This was a gift for my daughter and she LOVES it. She's mezmerized by the lights and movement and will cry when it turns off (she's still too little to reset herself). The characters are cute, the waterfall is very calming (even my husband and I stare at it), and the music and noises are very nice and relaxing.

I do think it has a few areas of improvement. 1) The straps are really hard to get on. 2)The timer is way too short - I am always having to reset it for my daughter 3)It would be nice if it could be positioned higher. The instructions say 7" between soother and mattress is necessary which means that it has to go on the head of the crib instead of the side until my baby is old enough where I reposition the height of the mattress. So, unless she is positioned sideways she really doesn't get to see it well.

I really do like this item and it has been a lifesaver getting our little one to fall asleep in the crib (she's 10 weeks old now and has been using this for a month). I highly recommend it!

3Good, but Bright- I miss the old Ocean Aquarium!  Dec 06, 2007
By D. K. Neeley
I got this for my son because he enjoyed the other rainforest items. This was very nice, except the light was so bright that it lit up his entire room at night! Definitely not what I would use to soothe him to sleep.
That being said, he loved watching the animals swing and the waterfall "work" I just wish the lights weren't so bright that I can't use it in the middle of the night. Whenever I turned it on he would squeeze his eyes shut and start to fidget to escape from the light!
So, a mixed review from me- great for anything other than soothing him to sleep in the middle of the night!

4very nice but could use a better timer...  Apr 16, 2007
By Living in Budapest "livinginhungary"
We bought the Rainforest Peek-A-Boo when we were on vacation because we forgot to bring our usual soother. The Rainforest Peek-A-Boo is great. Our 5 month old is fascinated by it. The soother does its job in terms of helping him to sleep. However, the timer feature could be improved. Our son falls asleep better with the light and sound. Unfortunately the longer, 18 minute, setting is with sound only. Overall the Fisher-Price Rainforest is a very good product that I would recommend.

1It leaks  Dec 11, 2010
By ddbrown83
We have had 2 of these soothers and both have leaked the "water". It is a sticky gel and I am worried about it being in the crib and the babies ingesting it or getting it on their skin. The toy would be great, but I wouldn't want anyone to buy it since it leaks.

The Importance Of Lighting In Interior Design

   by Jessica Ackerman

Everyone knows how important paint color, furniture choices and artwork are to interior design. One aspect of design that is often overlooked, however, is lighting. Lighting not only affects the brightness of the room, but it can also change the way a paint color looks, cast shadows in ways that make the room seem smaller and have an impact on the presentation of art work.

There is no light like natural light. If you are buying, building or remodeling, opt for as much natural light as possible. Oversized windows and skylights are two ways to get the most natural light. Of course, not everyone is in the position to be able to do that, so you'll have to work with what you have.

How much natural light do you get in your room? If the room in question faces north, you won't get as much natural sunlight as you would in a southern facing room. Rooms that face south get bright, natural light throughout the day. Rooms that face east will only have good natural light in the morning hours and western facing rooms will have the most light during the afternoon.

Once you are familiar with how much natural light is in each room, you'll be able to make informed choices about what additional lighting may be necessary. Keep in mind that rooms with little or no natural light will need artificial lighting - even during the day - in order to look their best. Here are some types of lighting to consider.

1. Accent Lighting

Accent lighting is perfect when you want to showcase a piece of art or a special piece of furniture or other item. Since light draws the eye, it will bring attention to the features in your room that you wish to highlight.

2. Hanging Light Features

Chandeliers and smaller hanging lamps can be beautiful as well as functional. A trip to the local home improvement store will quickly show you how overwhelming the choices can be. You'll want to select lighting that blends in with your existing décor. For example, a crystal chandelier in a country themed dining room probably isn't the best option. If you don't choose carefully, your lighting may stick out like a sore thumb and become more of an eyesore than a lovely accent.

3. Recessed Lighting

Recessed lighting is a good choice for a room that needs extra light throughout the day. Because the lighting won't interfere with the existing decor, it can work in almost any room. It provides abundant light without taking up a lot of space or interfering with other aspects of the room.

4. Lamps

Using lamps are a way to add not only additional lighting, but also punches of color. If possible, see how much light the lamp gives off before leaving the store. Many lamps serve as decoration more than as a light source and give off very little light. If you love the lamp, but it doesn't give off quite enough light, consider changing the shade which will usually solve the problem.

When decorating your home, remember how important lighting is, and give it the same thought and attention you give to the other details of decorating your home.
