4A little wiggle...  Apr 12, 2009
By Jordan Edwards
This is a great product for all you Lansky users out there; it really saves some cramping on the hands. My only complaint is that the nub to dock the sharpener is a fair bit smaller than the hole itself, leaving a good deal of wiggle in the overall setup. I typically pop a piece of paper towel on top before mounting and that clears it right up.

5really good  Dec 31, 2010

The base makes using the Lansky sharpener less awkward. It gives you a steady base to rest the sharpener 'jaws' on. I initially wanted to get the c-clamp base, but I opted for this one because it was a few dollars cheaper at the time. With a spring clamp from home depot (like a big clothes pin?) it stays where I put it on the table and works just as good.

3Actual Item not the Picture  Nov 30, 2010
By Pope Zeke IV "There ought to be a Nobel violence award"
Lansky products have been with me for over 30 years, and they are going strong. One may say it is based on rather old design, but all other products that followed copied Lansky, once the patent ran out. Over time, the plastic part of the grind stone crumbled, but Lansky promptly replaced, per their Life Time Guarantee.

What I have discovered, however, is that they have tried to cope with changing economy, and the equipment have gone through changes. I would not call it an improvement. The original Lansky mount in the picture is machined from aluminum, and perhaps steel (I do not know for sure, because I never bought one). The actual mount arrived is molded in a kind of a light metal. I do not like to have items switched: picture shows one thing, then the actual item is another.

One good thing about the new design is that it is sized to fit inside the plastic box that holds knife clamp and other sharpening stones. One bad thing about it is that it is designed to be permenently screwed down on a surface. I planned to clamp the mount on the table and remove it after the sharpening. The the old design would work well, but the new, molded design leaves a space between the board and the metal. I do not think it can handle the clamping force. Therefore I do not use it. I do not like the rounded, "ergonomic" shape of the new design, either.

I discarded the idea of returning the item, but I did not want to go through the hassle of returning: Amazon's administrative chores, wrapping, driving to the PO, and posting. Who has time to waste?

I will just hold with my hands, as I have done in the past 30 plus years.

2NOT SO GREAT  Oct 01, 2009

Cumbersome to use. Ended up using the system without it after a few minutes. Not very sturdy and made the sharpener difficult to use. Maybe the C-Clamp model would be better

3Not what I was expecting  Jun 20, 2011
By Corey
When I received this product it wasn't exactly what was pictured. The product in the picture is much more finished than the one I got. They perform the same function though, which is holding your Lansky clamp.

Other than the look of the product the only complaint is that the screw system used to hold it together likes to come loose, a little locktite should take care of it.

I've mentioned it on other Lansky reviews that I have done but I really can't say it enough. Lansky's customer service is AWESOME! If there's a problem with any product you get from them, they will do everything they can to make it right. 5 stars for that!

The Importance Of Lighting In Interior Design

   by Jessica Ackerman

Everyone knows how important paint color, furniture choices and artwork are to interior design. One aspect of design that is often overlooked, however, is lighting. Lighting not only affects the brightness of the room, but it can also change the way a paint color looks, cast shadows in ways that make the room seem smaller and have an impact on the presentation of art work.

There is no light like natural light. If you are buying, building or remodeling, opt for as much natural light as possible. Oversized windows and skylights are two ways to get the most natural light. Of course, not everyone is in the position to be able to do that, so you'll have to work with what you have.

How much natural light do you get in your room? If the room in question faces north, you won't get as much natural sunlight as you would in a southern facing room. Rooms that face south get bright, natural light throughout the day. Rooms that face east will only have good natural light in the morning hours and western facing rooms will have the most light during the afternoon.

Once you are familiar with how much natural light is in each room, you'll be able to make informed choices about what additional lighting may be necessary. Keep in mind that rooms with little or no natural light will need artificial lighting - even during the day - in order to look their best. Here are some types of lighting to consider.

1. Accent Lighting

Accent lighting is perfect when you want to showcase a piece of art or a special piece of furniture or other item. Since light draws the eye, it will bring attention to the features in your room that you wish to highlight.

2. Hanging Light Features

Chandeliers and smaller hanging lamps can be beautiful as well as functional. A trip to the local home improvement store will quickly show you how overwhelming the choices can be. You'll want to select lighting that blends in with your existing décor. For example, a crystal chandelier in a country themed dining room probably isn't the best option. If you don't choose carefully, your lighting may stick out like a sore thumb and become more of an eyesore than a lovely accent.

3. Recessed Lighting

Recessed lighting is a good choice for a room that needs extra light throughout the day. Because the lighting won't interfere with the existing decor, it can work in almost any room. It provides abundant light without taking up a lot of space or interfering with other aspects of the room.

4. Lamps

Using lamps are a way to add not only additional lighting, but also punches of color. If possible, see how much light the lamp gives off before leaving the store. Many lamps serve as decoration more than as a light source and give off very little light. If you love the lamp, but it doesn't give off quite enough light, consider changing the shade which will usually solve the problem.

When decorating your home, remember how important lighting is, and give it the same thought and attention you give to the other details of decorating your home.
