4Product description is not true - NOT a 3-pack!  Nov 05, 2009
By The Noodle's Mommy
Melissa & Doug puzzles are fabulous. However, the product name ("Puzzle Bundle, Pack of Three") is NOT TRUE! Before I purchased this item, I read the reviews and there was one from quite some time ago (seems like it was at least a year earlier) where they'd ordered the "3 pack" of puzzles, but only got one. When they contacted amazon, they were told that they puzzles were no longer being sold in bundled 3-packs and orders were being fulled as a single puzzle but for the same price as the 3-pack bundle. Well, silly me ... I figured that amazon had fixed that problem, because why would anyone buy the 3-pack for $19.99 (but only get one puzzle) when you can buy one Melissa & Doug puzzle for less than $10. Obviously it makes no sense. So I foolishly relied on amazon's description and when it said a bundled 3-pack, I believed them. I shouldn't have. I only received one puzzle. AMAZON -- FIX THIS PRODUCT DESCRIPTION!!! Now, when I called amazon cusomer service, the gentleman I spoke with did immediately and without any grief put a $10 promotional credit on my amazaon accout to be applied to any future purchases. Since I buy through amazon often, this insn't a problem. However, if I wasn't planning to make any future amazone purchases, the credit would do no good. I also could've returned the product, but I would've had to find suitable shipping materials and that was more effort than I wanted to go to.

4Buy these young...  Oct 03, 2007
By Nicole Leishman "N Leishman"
We have many Melissa & Doug products at our house, and these peg puzzles are among them. I bought these for my 2 year old and he is now 28 months. He already had very good manual dexterity and fine motor skills, he seems mechanically inclined, he also already knew his colors, so matching was easy, and these only helpedfine tune those skills. He mastered these immediately, and I only wish I had purchased them sooner. He will still play with them, but they are completed so quickly, that while this activity used to hold his attention (quite a feat,) for 20 minutes or so, it's a 7-10 minute activity now. Like all Melissa and Doug items, they are high quality with pretty, charming artwork. I just recommend knowing your child's skill level with these types of toys and buying them at the approriate age, we could have used them at 18 months easily and gotten more play time out of them. The only concern would be that some of the pieces are kind of small, so use constant supervision, which these type of toys usually require anyway, if you are going to introduce them earlier. At least we have another little one now to pass them on to, we'll pull them out of storage sooner this time!

1Great Toy, but don't buy  Jul 10, 2008
By Joy's Mom
This is a GREAT toy and what a value! I want to be very fair to Amazon because they have not "done me wrong" before. I ordered this and the other Melissa & Doug Puzzle bundle for a birthday present. I have ordered it before and it is a fantastic toy, LOVE Melissa & Doug puzzles. I received the wrong order twice. Apparently, Amazon takes apart the puzzle bundle so I only received one of the puzzles. I returned it and they replaced it only with the same issue, just one puzzle. I followed up with customer service and they got back to me saying they no longer have a puzzle bundle that hasn't been separated. Maybe they will eventually refill their stock, but until then don't waste your time. I'm surprised they are still selling the items. Amazon is usually pretty responsible.

5Encourages child to pay attention to detail  Dec 07, 2007
By Ashley Collins
I bought these puzzles for my daughter for her second birthday. She is amazing at puzzles and we needed some more challenging ones. These were perfect. Because each puzzle has all the same shaped pieces, Ellie has to not only figure out which way the piece fits into the opening, but she also has to pay attention to the colorings on the piece. I don't know if all children care about those kind of things, but my daughter does, so when she accidently put the "bus" piece in the "fire truck" slot, she take a second look and says, "oh nooooo" and takes it out to figure out where it goes. I love it these puzzles and so does she. And I love how cute they are and that they are wooden to last through my son when he gets old enough.

1Horrible, took the puzzles away from my 14 month old son  Jul 18, 2008
By AW
Terrible design. All the pieces are the same and the pegs are very small and a choking hazard. For the animal puzzle, all the pieces are just the hind quarters; not very interesting. I love Melissa and Doug products and purchased other chunky puzzles, stacking shapes, and magnets. Very disappointed and surprised. I actually thought they may be couterfeit. Don't be pulled in by the value pricing.

The Importance Of Lighting In Interior Design

   by Jessica Ackerman

Everyone knows how important paint color, furniture choices and artwork are to interior design. One aspect of design that is often overlooked, however, is lighting. Lighting not only affects the brightness of the room, but it can also change the way a paint color looks, cast shadows in ways that make the room seem smaller and have an impact on the presentation of art work.

There is no light like natural light. If you are buying, building or remodeling, opt for as much natural light as possible. Oversized windows and skylights are two ways to get the most natural light. Of course, not everyone is in the position to be able to do that, so you'll have to work with what you have.

How much natural light do you get in your room? If the room in question faces north, you won't get as much natural sunlight as you would in a southern facing room. Rooms that face south get bright, natural light throughout the day. Rooms that face east will only have good natural light in the morning hours and western facing rooms will have the most light during the afternoon.

Once you are familiar with how much natural light is in each room, you'll be able to make informed choices about what additional lighting may be necessary. Keep in mind that rooms with little or no natural light will need artificial lighting - even during the day - in order to look their best. Here are some types of lighting to consider.

1. Accent Lighting

Accent lighting is perfect when you want to showcase a piece of art or a special piece of furniture or other item. Since light draws the eye, it will bring attention to the features in your room that you wish to highlight.

2. Hanging Light Features

Chandeliers and smaller hanging lamps can be beautiful as well as functional. A trip to the local home improvement store will quickly show you how overwhelming the choices can be. You'll want to select lighting that blends in with your existing décor. For example, a crystal chandelier in a country themed dining room probably isn't the best option. If you don't choose carefully, your lighting may stick out like a sore thumb and become more of an eyesore than a lovely accent.

3. Recessed Lighting

Recessed lighting is a good choice for a room that needs extra light throughout the day. Because the lighting won't interfere with the existing decor, it can work in almost any room. It provides abundant light without taking up a lot of space or interfering with other aspects of the room.

4. Lamps

Using lamps are a way to add not only additional lighting, but also punches of color. If possible, see how much light the lamp gives off before leaving the store. Many lamps serve as decoration more than as a light source and give off very little light. If you love the lamp, but it doesn't give off quite enough light, consider changing the shade which will usually solve the problem.

When decorating your home, remember how important lighting is, and give it the same thought and attention you give to the other details of decorating your home.
