5looks and works great  Jun 17, 2008

I liked the look of this light online but it's even much better in real life. The glass is a nice color of swirled creamy yellowish color mixed with off-white and the fixture looks to be of high quality. I also love the fact that it turns itself off and on according to the light outside so I never have to remember to do it plus it's nice to have a light turning on at night while we are away from home. Great price, great look, and great automatic off and on feature. Love it!

3You get what you pay for  Feb 24, 2010

This light looks good as long as it isn't high enough that you can see the hardware that holds the glass in place. The mounting hardware is not very sturdy. I ordered two of these and the glass was slightly different shades of "honey". I like the auto on/off and the flourescent bulb. I wish it was not made in China.

4Nice but...  Dec 13, 2009

This is a very pretty light but there are a couple of things to be aware of. One, it's huge. I looked at the dimensions prior to buying it but I obviously didn't look close enough otherwise I would have bought the smaller cheaper one. It throws tons of light so I'm sure the smaller one's wattage would have been fine.

Two, I climb some stairs to get to the door where I use this light and I can see the hardware that is used to hold the panels in when climbing up. If you don't approach from below you won't have this issue.

3Poor Documentation  Dec 06, 2010
By Yogi "Yogi"
There is only a brief instructions manual that comes with the lamp, and it is just a generic Westinghouse manual, which is not specific to this model. This was to replace a porch light that was controlled by a timer inside the house. My thought was keep the timer and set it to start at 4pm and turn off at 10pm. With a dusk-to-dawn photocell then the light would not actually come on until dusk (which is always after 4pm), and would always turn off at 10pm. Before the changing of sunrise/sunset made a normal timer not very useful.

So the light went up pretty easy (although the instruction manual showed a completely different model), but the light won't come back on. I turned it on manually, and let it run for a couple of hours just to make sure it wouldn't catch fire or something weird. I turned it off my shining a flashlight onto the photocell, and now it will not come back on. There is a street light near my house, so I hope that isn't the problem, but I covered the photocell with a napkin, so it would think it was dark but that didn't work.

So it isn't working, but I don't know if it is the timer or the light. Unfortunately Westinghouse has no help for me. So I went to the timer company, Intermatic, and my old timer does not work with Compact Florescent Lights (CFL). So now I am waiting for delivery of a new timer that claims it does from Swylite ($40 with express shipping). New update. New Swylite timer that does work with CFL, BUT (not in their ad) in the instructions, does not work with photocells. So THIS LIGHT WILL NOT WORK WITH ANY CURRENTLY KNOWN TO MAN TIMER. If you want just a dusk to dawn light, PERFECT, if you want further automation, then don't get any photocell light because it won't turn on.

There is about an 6 foot drop from the light to the sidewalk, and yes you get a little ugly look inside the back of the fixture. There is a ledge all the way around the inside of the bottom lip, so I will try to find some pretty glass to put in the back 1/2 of the fixture. The bulb produces no heat, so that should be fine. The bulb is not a standard screw in bulb, it has two prongs, so looks to be something tough to find a replacement when the time comes. It also prevents me from testing the fixture because of the timer issue. Update: a nice pretty piece of textured glass hides the insides.

So I can turn it on with a normal light switch (no timers, errrr), and the wattage of the included bulb is perfect for the size. Not overwhelming and not too dim.

We were just about spend a bundle on light fixtures from another company when I though I'd check Amazon to see what they had available. The photo looked very similar to the ones we were about to purchase, but the price was MUCH less. So, I decided to buy a few and see how they were.

Pleasantly surprised! My husband not only loves the way they look, but is also happy that they are energy efficient and have a setting for automatic off/on based on the amount of outdoor natural light available. And we saved a ton with Free Supersaver Shipping!

We've had them up for over a month now and they are doing fine in our every changing inclimate Feb/Mar weather (intense sun, heavy rain and high winds) in Hawaii. Great Deal!

The Importance Of Lighting In Interior Design

Everyone knows how important paint color, furniture choices and artwork are to interior design. One aspect of design that is often overlooked, however, is lighting. Lighting not only affects the brightness of the room, but it can also change the way a paint color looks, cast shadows in ways that make the room seem smaller and have an impact on the presentation of art work.

There is no light like natural light. If you are buying, building or remodeling, opt for as much natural light as possible. Oversized windows and skylights are two ways to get the most natural light. Of course, not everyone is in the position to be able to do that, so you'll have to work with what you have.

How much natural light do you get in your room? If the room in question faces north, you won't get as much natural sunlight as you would in a southern facing room. Rooms that face south get bright, natural light throughout the day. Rooms that face east will only have good natural light in the morning hours and western facing rooms will have the most light during the afternoon.

Once you are familiar with how much natural light is in each room, you'll be able to make informed choices about what additional lighting may be necessary. Keep in mind that rooms with little or no natural light will need artificial lighting - even during the day - in order to look their best. Here are some types of lighting to consider.

1. Accent Lighting

Accent lighting is perfect when you want to showcase a piece of art or a special piece of furniture or other item. Since light draws the eye, it will bring attention to the features in your room that you wish to highlight.

2. Hanging Light Features

Chandeliers and smaller hanging lamps can be beautiful as well as functional. A trip to the local home improvement store will quickly show you how overwhelming the choices can be. You'll want to select lighting that blends in with your existing décor. For example, a crystal chandelier in a country themed dining room probably isn't the best option. If you don't choose carefully, your lighting may stick out like a sore thumb and become more of an eyesore than a lovely accent.

3. Recessed Lighting

Recessed lighting is a good choice for a room that needs extra light throughout the day. Because the lighting won't interfere with the existing decor, it can work in almost any room. It provides abundant light without taking up a lot of space or interfering with other aspects of the room.

4. Lamps

Using lamps are a way to add not only additional lighting, but also punches of color. If possible, see how much light the lamp gives off before leaving the store. Many lamps serve as decoration more than as a light source and give off very little light. If you love the lamp, but it doesn't give off quite enough light, consider changing the shade which will usually solve the problem.

When decorating your home, remember how important lighting is, and give it the same thought and attention you give to the other details of decorating your home.
